"Interwoven" - Mary Gulden Groebner

My fascination with textiles began by watching my mother sew and crochet. She taught me the basics of crocheting at a very early age. At twelve I taught myself to machine sew. I’ve learned to sew clothing, made crafts, created home decor and also cross-stitched all with no formal training. All of this whetted my appetite for color and texture in textiles. All of which eventually led me to begin quilting in 1992.

Since that time, I have taken traditional quilting and sewing to new places and learned techniques with each new project. Creating original art pieces that played with textiles, fabrics, colors, embellishments and textures was the next step in my journey as an artist. Now, in addition to traditional seaming, I glue, free motion quilt, layer and continue to learn new techniques and use them in my own creative ways.

I was born and raised in New Ulm and married my high school sweetheart. All three of our children and their families live in New Ulm. I am inspired and supported by my loved ones and much of my work goes to them.
